The Executive Director, US Compliance & Integrity Business Partnering is responsible for leading a dynamic team of Compliance Business partners within the US Compliance & Integrity Department, including overseeing the Compliance Program with respect to the company's therapeutic and related areas (in both commercial and medical compliance) and enabling functions. With minimal supervision of the VP, US Chief Compliance & Integrity Officer, this role is responsible for oversight of complex elements of Boehringer Ingelheim's US Compliance Program at both the business and regional level. Responsible for identifying potential compliance risk areas and communicating proposed practical solutions to senior management. Serves collaboratively on the US Compliance & Integrity Leadership Team and provides leadership, strategic advice and support to entire Compliance & Integrity function, including coordinating with global colleagues.
Duties & Responsibilities
Directs, implements, documents, and maintains a coordinated Compliance Program for all functional areas and activities within remit (inclusive of commercial, medical and enabling functions) to comply with State and Federal regulations and company policy. Coordinates resources to ensure the ongoing effectiveness of the Compliance Program. Directs all elements of the Compliance Program within area of responsibility. Collaborate with key Compliance and Legal stakeholders, including compliance operations colleagues, in supporting the development and implementation of compliance systems and tools; drafting and communicating policies; developing and implementing compliance training; developing monitoring and auditing systems; providing subject matter expertise into investigations and implementing corrective action, and reporting to senior management on Compliance issues. Ensures that the Compliance Program meets all applicable standards and recognized guidelines within area of responsibility.
Provides advice and proposes practical solutions on Compliance & Integrity matters relating to relevant stakeholders supported by Compliance, and a wide range of issues impacting the U.S. business, to senior leaders within the U.S. and globally.
Works closely with the business, Compliance and Legal colleagues on activities requiring a high-level of coordination between Commercial and Medical (e.g., commercial-medical interfaces, Medical Affairs, engagement of healthcare professionals, etc.). Works closely with global counterparts on global compliance activities having impact on the U.S. compliance program. Coordinates with Legal, HR, IT, and other departments to ensure effective management of cross-department compliance controls, including investigations, audits, etc.
Active member of Senior leadership teams for the areas team supports as well as US Compliance Committee member. Monitors the performance of the Human Pharma function with regard to compliance and regularly updates and counsels senior management on the effectiveness of the compliance program. Proactive leader, including teaching and training, on Compliance and Integrity issues both within the company and externally.
Lead (recruit, hire, coach, develop, motivate, manage and monitor performance) and directly manage a staff of dedicated Compliance professionals. Creates and maintains a performance-based team culture with clear accountability and a sense of urgency for achieving results. Management includes goal setting, performance evaluations and compensation decisions, hiring, and coordinating with leadership on the performance and expectations of the group.
Requirements
BA/BS from an accredited institution required; CPA, Masters, JD, or equivalent work experience strongly preferred. Minimum of Bachelor's degree or in relevant Legal field supporting Compliance issues. Compliance certification preferred but not required.
Significant Compliance expertise and experience (at least 8 - 10 years) leading Compliance activities in a pharmaceutical environment; experience leading large teams and projects, preferably within a matrixed environment; significant experience in business partnering, including with senior leadership; Solution- and results-oriented with a flexible, business-minded approach to resolving Compliance challenges in an effective, pragmatic, timely and ethical manner; operates with autonomy and limited supervision.
Strong history of prior compliance, commercial, and/or legal leadership and experience in the US.
Understanding of U.S. and international Compliance requirements on US operations.
Substantial business, legal and regulatory knowledge and experience in pharmaceutical industry.
Strong interpersonal, management and influencing skills and experience.
Strong leadership experience, significant business-partnering experience, and solutions/results-orientation.
Proven leadership ability, as well as agility and accountability demonstrating history of successful performance.
Solution- and results-oriented with a flexible, business-minded approach to resolving Compliance challenges in an effective, pragmatic, timely and ethical manner; operates with autonomy and limited supervision.
Eligibility Requirements:
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.
Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required).
Must be 18 years of age or older.
